Move Forward With ARBOR's e-Guardian : Mobile DVR Solution

Today, each automobile is equipping with more gadgets particularly the electronics devices such as GPS and personal computer (PC). One of the most interesting is the re-invention of PCs into automobile and becoming one of the most integral parts of infotainment system (Infotainment is the combination words of Information and Entertainment). According to Mr. Kevin Hsu, director of System R& D Department of ARBOR Technology said : "ARBOR is concentrating in the industrial PC for a while and through innovations the company is able to "integrate" the industrial PC into versatile "Industrial Car PC." It takes more than 2~3 years to develop this kind of product where it must go under "extreme" treatment such as weather, moisture, temperature and shock.

"It is no easy task to accomplished," Hsu claimed. But through long-term of working experiences and through their system integrators (SI) channels, the E-Guardian was re-invented. E-Guardian is considered that most affordable industrial grade Car PC with new feature is the mobile digital video recording capability. Hsu revealed that E-Guardian has several outstanding features including Smart Control and tough environment test. The Smart Control comes with two types: first is the Power Control on Start-up/ Shutdown delay for certain minutes for administrator to retrieve information from the E-Guardian and the huge voltage changes is to prevent the E-Guardian from draining battery power or low voltage that prevents from damaging to itself. Hsu pointed out the if the battery voltage drop to 9 volts, the E-Guardian will not operate because the automobile or vehicle itself needs this kind of power to start-up. The second outstanding feature of E-Guardian is tough environmental test that the shock resistance that is tested under 30G. It is the same powerful blow that could bend iron steel. Beside these two features, Hsu said that E-Guardian is built on selected material from individual components up to connectors. Like a resistor, it should withstand high temperature without physical damage or changes in its composition. It is a very critical and tedious job but many of ARBOR's CarPCs are able to comply with automotive standards.

Beside the two outstanding features, Hsu proud to say that the E-Guardian is the combination of two different systems such as Broadcasting and Security. The function of the broadcasting is for commercial advertising for general public announcement; while the security is mostly use the digital recording function. The target of E-Guardian primarily designed for trucks such as Emergency for hospital or Fire trucks, Police cars and public transportation systems specially buses, trains or mass transport railways.
